Adopt A Grandparent Scheme

Adopt A Grandparent Scheme

At Bryden House we want to enrich the lives of our residents, this is very imperative during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

We have constructed the “adopt a grandparent scheme” scheme. We will utilise volunteers who can help keep a resident company and enthused.

This can be done in various ways. For those who are hard of hearing volunteers can write letters, those who are blind volunteers can speak to the individual by recording into the mobile telephone. If the resident can read brail we can convert letters to brail format.

Although the scheme has immerged from Covid-19 lockdown. If we find the residents, who participate in the scheme, show enthusiasm and their wellbeing has improved, we may adopt the scheme permanently within the home.

We will ensure that residents are safe and there is no breach of safeguarding legislation. Our staff will inspect the contents of letters, listen to recordings. If the volunteer is to telephone the resident, we will ensure we have a member of staff present.

We will pair our participating residents with the volunteer based on shared common interest. Therefore, I would like to know briefly what the volunteer’s hobbies and interests are. Once we have paired the individuals, we can arrange a suitable time for both to have a video call for the initial contact. After the video call both parties can come to a decision on how often to make contact, and means of contact.

We will support you by mentioning you on social media, press releases and news updates.
